England will look to follow up their series win in Pakistan when they face T20 World Cup hosts Australia in the first of three warm-up matches on Sunday.

Buttler back to skipper England

Both teams will view the day/night clash in Perth as a great chance for key players to sharpen up their games after returning from injury, particularly England captain Jos Buttler, who has not played competitively since mid-August.

Buttler took a back seat in Lahore and Karachi as Moeen Ali led the tourists to a 4-3 victory, with England particularly impressive when the chips were down in the final two must-win matches of the series.

All three facets of England's cricket looked in good order in Pakistan with the batters faring well on the slower pitches and crucial elements of the bowling group coming together well under the watch of new coach David Saker.

Team changes expected for tourists

Mark Wood took 3-20 and 3-24 in his first spells since March to ensure he will be an automatic choice for the serious stuff at the World Cup, although he may remain wrapped in cotton wool for this game.

Ben Stokes, Chris Jordan and Liam Livingstone will surely feature in the Australia warm-ups after being rested from the Pakistan trip with England Test captain Stokes set to bat at four in a powerful line-up.

Assuming Buttler opens with Alex Hales and Dawid Malan, whose match-winning knock clinched series victory in Pakistan, stays at three, then Livingstone, Harry Brook and Moeen will follow at five, six and seven.

Hosts have been experimenting

Australia tend to play seven batters too, but the exact order is uncertain right now after experimentation took place in the two warm-up matches against the West Indies earlier this week.

Cameron Green, who is not in the World Cup squad, kept his slot as an opener alongside the returning David Warner, with skipper Aaron Finch dropping down to bat at four and three in the respective three-wicket and 31-run wins.

All-formats star Steve Smith was squeezed out of the XI for the first one, returning with a sedate 17 off 16 balls in Friday's game.

Finch's form had been in question earlier this year, but the Melbourne Renegades star has come good of late, scoring 302 runs in nine innings with three half-centuries and a strike rate of almost 140.

Wade's finishing form covers for Maxwell's malaise

As all-rounders Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis work their way back after injury, Matthew Wade continued his prosperous period as the green and gold's finisher.

Since taking on the role last October, the left-hander has rattled off 326 runs in 11 innings and been dismissed just four times.

The big concern for the home team is over Glenn Maxwell, whose current lean patch started during the Zimbabwe ODI series earlier this year. His last seven innings in this format have yielded only 43 runs.

Australia's Matthew Wade has been a man in form over the last 12 months

Aussie attack suited down to the ground

When the sides last met, in Group 1 of the 2021 World Cup, England romped to an eight-wicket victory with 50 balls to spare on the back of Buttler's unbeaten 71 off 32 balls.

Finch, with 44 off 49, was the only Aussie batter to provide any resistance as Jordan, Chris Woakes and Tymal Mills ran through their order for 125.

But the Perth track is likely to favour Australia's pace attack of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, who will generate more pace and bounce than England's bowlers - other than Wood, who is likely to be rested.

England and Australia have played eight T20Is on Australian soil, with the home side winning on seven occasions.

The hosts also won the only previous international T20 played at Perth Stadium by ten wickets and, although this is unlikely to be as lopsided, Australia should have enough local knowhow to get the win.
