Kai Havertz’s late winner at Brentford last weekend saw Arsenal move to the Premier League summit and, with Manchester City and Liverpool not in action until Sunday, they can build a four-point cushion with victory over Wolves.

The Gunners have responded well to their 1-0 loss away at Newcastle at the start of November, posting four straight victories in all competitions.

Mikel Arteta’s side were in rampant mood at home to Lens in the Champions League on Wednesday, hitting the French visitors for six, and they have generally been pretty formidable at the Emirates.

Arsenal remain unbeaten after seven home league games, winning five of those fixtures, so Wolves are faced with a tough task.

The visitors have looked a progressive unit under Gary O'Neil, but they must dust themselves down from their latest 3-2 loss at Fulham, where they were felt aggrieved by some poor refereeing decisions.

Team news

Fabio Vieira is suspended, but he has had groin surgery so is set for a spell on the sidelines, while Thomas Partey, Emile Smith Rowe and Jurrien Timber remain out.

Wolves are without suspended midfielders Joao Gomes and Mario Lemina, but defender Craig Dawson is available again after his ban.

Rayan Ait-Nouri must be assessed after limping off at Fulham last time out, but Pedro Neto and Joe Hodge are missing.

The stats

Arsenal have lost only one of their opening 13 Premier League matches, winning nine of those fixtures.

Publicidad

The Gunners have won each of their last five home outings, accounting for the likes of Manchester City, Sevilla and Lens.

However, the hosts have seen both teams score in five of their seven league matches at the Emirates.

Both teams have also scored in Wolves’ last 11 matches in all competitions, although Arsenal have won the last four meetings between the pair.

The visitors have also suffered defeat in four of their seven away league games this term.

Gary O'Neil and Wolves face a tough test of their mettle at table-topping Arsenal this weekend

Prediction

Wolves have looked lively in attacking areas under O'Neil, but they will have to throw caution to the wind away at Arsenal, who have the attacking stars to pick the visitors off.

The suspensions of Gomes and Lemina is a big blow and that midfield area is now something the Gunners will be able to exploit.

Having Dawson back at the heart of their defence is a boost, but Wolves have kept only one clean sheet in 13 league games this season.

The visitors have shipped three on trips to Crystal Palace and Fulham, while also conceding four at home to Brighton and three when entertaining Liverpool.

So Gunners, fresh from their 6-0 rout of Lens in midweek, should be confident they can get amongst the goals again.

Arteta’s side won 5-0 when hosting Wolves in May of last season and, while the visitors look much-improved, they don’t look best prepared for this trip.
