Substitute Antwoine Hackford scored the winner as Port Vale beat MK Dons 1-0.

Hackford’s goal saw Vale make it seven games unbeaten in League Two and handed Scott Lindsey a first defeat as MK Dons boss.

Before the game a minute’s silence was held in memory of former MK Dons player George Baldock, who died at the age of 31 on Wednesday.

Dons striker Tommy Leigh had two goals ruled out in the first half-hour, one for offside and another for handball when he turned in a corner.

Vale had chances in the second half, with home goalkeeper Tom McGill denying Lorent Tolaj and Ronan Curtis before Ryan Croasdale and Connor Hall narrowly missed the target.

The visitors scored the only goal in the 77th minute as Hackford turned in Jack Shorrock’s cross.

Hackford nearly wrapped up the points only to be denied by McGill in a one-on-one, while Connor Lemonheigh-Evans saw the Dons’ best chance of an equaliser denied.
