Ilestedt Gunning for glory as Arsenal complete deal for PSG defender
Arsenal's latest summer signing Amanda Ilestedt is aiming to win multiple titles at the club after enjoying succesful spells with Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.
The Gunners are looking to mount a challenge to Chelsea's Women's Super League crown next season and have brought in an experienced centre-back.
Swedish defender Ilestedt won the French Cup during her time with PSG and also claimed the Frauen Bundesliga with Bayern in 2021.
She has won 64 caps for her country, featuring at two World Cups and will turn out once again at this summer's tournament in Australia and New Zealand.
On her new challenge, she said: "I'm really excited and happy to be here.
"My goal is to win titles and this is a great club with great players and fantastic facilities, so I believe this is the right place for me to achieve that.
"There is a real sense of momentum around this club and the support has been wonderful — I can't wait to walk out onto the pitch in the Arsenal kit."
Head coach Jonas Eidevall, who coached Ilestedt at FC Rosengard, has also spoken of his excitement about the signing, saying: "I'm delighted that Amanda has joined us here at Arsenal.
"She brings extensive international experience and I believe she has a great mix of presence and technical ability, making her an ideal fit for our squad.
"I enjoyed working with Amanda during our time in Sweden and am looking forward to coaching her here at Arsenal too."
The Gunners finished third in the WSL last term — 11 points behind champions Chelsea.
They shipped the most goals out of the top three sides but will be hoping Ilestedt can give them the upper hand in the 2023-24 campaign.
