One of the fiercest rivalries in world football will play out on the biggest of stages over the next week as AC Milan clash with Inter Milan in the Champions League semi-finals.

Both legs will be played at the San Siro, which is shared by the two Italian giants.

The game comes at a time when the teams are separated by just two points in Serie A.

Ahead of tonight's first leg, we have picked a combined XI of Milan and Inter players.

Goalkeeper: Mike Maignan (AC Milan)

Inter's Andre Onana has impressed in his debut season yet Mike Maignan is arguably the best keeper in the world right now and saved a late penalty in the quarter-final victory against Napoli.

Right-back: Davide Calabria (AC Milan)

If we were playing with wing-backs then Denzel Dumfries would be the choice here.

With a back four, the superior defensive ability of Milan captain Davide Calabria is preferred.

Centre-back: Alessandro Bastoni (Inter Milan)

Perhaps the easiest choice of our defence is Alessandro Bastoni. The left-footed central defender has great ability on the ball.

Centre-back: Francesco Acerbi (Inter Milan)

With Milan's central defenders having sometimes struggled for consistency, we have gone for Francesco Acerbi alongside Bastoni. The 35-year-old continues to perform at a high level.

Left-back: Theo Hernandez (AC Milan)

Federico Dimarco is having a great season but so too is Theo Hernandez, who like Calabria is better suited to a back four.

Defensive midfield: Marcelo Brozovic (Inter Milan)

Croatia international Marcelo Brozovic anchors our midfield, due to his ability to drop deep and help build play from defence.

Central midfield: Nicolo Barella (Inter Milan)

Nicolo Barella is an all-rounder, perfectly suited to a box-to-box role.

Strong defensively, he also offers a threat going forward and eight goals this season represents his best ever tally.

Central midfield: Hakan Calhanoglu (Inter Milan)

Milan's Sandro Tonali or Ismael Bennacer were options for the final midfield place, but we have decided to go for a Nerazzurri clean sweep.

Hakan Calhanoglu's set-piece ability and creativity make him our choice.

Right wing: Brahim Diaz (AC Milan)

On-loan from Real Madrid, Brahim Diaz scored the only goal of the last-16 tie against Tottenham. The 23-year-old's influence has grown as the season has gone on.

Left wing: Rafael Leao (AC Milan)

If there is one player with the ability to win this tie on his own, it is Rafael Leao.

The Portugal star created a goal from nothing for Olivier Giroud in the second leg against Napoli with a mazy run from his own half.

Striker: Lautaro Martinez (Inter Milan)

The Argentine may not have had the best World Cup, but he is enjoying another fine campaign with Inter.

With 23 goals in 49 games, he is on course for his most prolific season yet.
