York climbed back to the top of the National League table after a 3-0 home win against Southend.

Dipo Akinyemi broke the deadlock in the second half after after stepping off the bench before headers from Callum Howe and substitute David Ajiboye sealed the win, which lifted the Minstermen above Barnet on goal difference.

York twice went close in the first half through Tyrese Sinclair, who blazed over the crossbar after rounding goalkeeper Colin Andeng-Ndi and then saw a header cleared off the line.

Akinyemi replaced Sinclair just after the hour-mark and two minutes later put home a rebound after Howe’s header had hit the crossbar (64).

Howe then headed home Daniel Batty’s corner at the near post (68) and Ajiboye nodded in the third with 14 minutes left after another Batty corner had been flicked on by Malachi Fagan-Walcott.
