Marc Skinner insists his job as Manchester United boss is "absolutely secure" — despite a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea piling on the pressure.

Lauren James grabbed a hat-trick in a comfortable win for the Women's Super League champions, with a Hayley Ladd effort a mere consolation for United during a disappointing Sunday afternoon at Stamford Bridge.

The Red Devils — who finished a close second to the Blues in the WSL last season — are now 10 points behind Emma Hayes' side with only 11 games played.

One United fan held up a 'Skinner out' sign after witnessing their third league defeat of the season but the manager insists he is not worried for his job.

Skinner, 40, told Sky Sports: "If you look at how you perform with the resources we have, I am absolutely secure in what I do and how I do it.

"And I thoroughly, with every sinew in my body, believe in my team, believe in what we can do and believe where we will be.

"Nothing is ever perfect in life and we are inclusive of everybody. My sole focus is on my team and how we get better and continue to be better."

Referring to the sign, Skinner added: "The fans are absolutely entitled to do what they want.

"We are never going to silence any fan from having their opinion. They pay their hard-earned money."

Are you Shaw?

Manchester City striker Khadija Shaw claimed she could have scored even more goals after netting her third WSL hat-trick in four games against Liverpool.

The Jamaican striker's treble, alongside a Gemma Bonner own goal and a Chloe Kelly penalty, saw City secure a 5-1 win over the Reds, who took the lead through Taylor Hinds.

Having taken her league tally to 12 for the season, Shaw, 26, urged the Citizens to maintain their high standards ahead of another competitive title run-in.

She told Sky Sports: "It's fine margins in this league, we know that. We just want to keep pushing and scoring as many goals as possible.

"There's always room for improvement. If I look back on my game, I missed one that Chloe played across. But it is what it is!

"I try to stay alive, try to be active in the box and do the best I can from my position to help the team."

Grace Clinton is enjoying the freedom she is being given at Tottenham after starring in a thrilling 4-3 win over West Ham.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who is on loan from Manchester United, netted twice and assisted Celin Bizet before Jessica Naz struck the winner in a topsy-turvy clash at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

She told Sky Sports: "[Tottenham] have given me the confidence and freedom to express myself.

"I'm really enjoying being around the group and just love playing football.

"I've not thought about [making the move permanent]. I'm just happy to be playing football, I'm expressing myself on the pitch and I'm just taking it game by game."
