Aldershot were left to rue two late chances that came back off the post as they drew 2-2 with Braintree in a battle of two sides hovering just above the National League relegation zone.

Braintree needed only three minutes to take the lead as Kyrell Lisbie went through on goal and slotted the ball beyond Marcus Dewhurst.

But Aldershot responded well and saw Josh Barrett hit the underside of the crossbar before James Henry levelled it in the 16th minute from Ashley Akpan’s cross.

Barrett’s lobbed finish then had the hosts in front in the 24th minute, only for John Akinde’s close-range finish to level it again five minutes before the break.

Tyler Frost twice hit the post for Aldershot in the final quarter of an hour but it finished all square in north Hampshire.
