Women's World Cup Sunday predictions: Hosts to secure stalemate

The first of the final group games of the Women’s World Cup take place on Sunday with the hopes of those in Group A all hanging in the balance. 

New Zealand face Switzerland while the Philippines take on Norway, with all four teams still able to qualify for the knockout stages.

There is also action from Group H where South Korea and Morocco are looking to bounce back when they face each other, while Germany and Colombia will be hoping to pick up where they left off after opening up with wins.

South Korea vs Morocco (Sunday, 5.30am)

Morocco were beaten 6-0 by Germany in their opening match and they look unlikely to get much joy in this clash with South Korea. 

The Taeguk Ladies were beaten 2-0 by Colombia in their opening game but look more likely to bounce back on Sunday.

Morocco have not won any of their last six games and have failed to score in all six of those games too.

By contrast, South Korea warmed up for the tournament with three wins against Haiti and Zambia, netting 12 times in the process.

Switzerland vs New Zealand (Sunday, 8am)

A shock win over Norway in their opening matchup gave New Zealand great hopes of progressing to the knockout stages but a 1-0 loss to the Philippines has put their chances in jeopardy.

The hosts need at least a point from this game against Switzerland to keep their hopes of continuing in the tournament alive and they are fancied for a stalemate in this one.

The Swiss have drawn six of their last eight games and need just a point to top the group and this may be another close clash.

Germany vs Colombia (Sunday, 10.30am)

Germany beat Morocco 6-0 in their opening clash of this year’s competition and are fancied to follow that up with another victory over Colombia.

The South Americans come in to this on the back of a 2-0 win over South Korea and should be able to have some say in the game. 

They have netted in their last 15 games in a row and have a number of exciting forwards, particularly Linda Caicedo.

Both teams have scored in six of Germany’s last nine matches.
