There are eight rounds of fixtures left in the Championship season and that will be a concern for Watford and Plymouth, who face each other at Vicarage Road this weekend.

Watford have struggled to keep up with the promotion pace and face the challenge of bridging a five-point gap to the playoff positions.

The Hornets have registered only four wins since the turn of year and were beaten 1-0 at Oxford last time out.

While Watford are trying to get out of the division, Plymouth are struggling to maintain second-tier status.

Argyle have registered just seven wins in 38 league games and are stuck at the foot of the table, six points short of the safety line.

Team news

Kwadwo Baah (hamstring is back in training and ready to return to the squad but Amin Nabizada (muscle strain), Kevin Keben, Pierre Dwomoh and Mamadou Doumbia (all hamstring) remain unavailable.

Kevin Amankwaah serves a one-game ban and should be replaced by Mattie Pollock, who missed the 1-0 loss at Oxford to attend the birth of his first child. Eight Watford players were away on international duty and none of them have reported any issues.

Maksym Talovierov (unspecified injury) has joined fellow defenders Julio Pleguezuelo and Brendan Galloway in the Plymouth treatment room.

Mustapha Bundu picked up an injury while on international duty with Sierra Leone but has been cleared to play. Adam Randell is also available after completing a three-game ban.

The stats

Watford have scored less than two goals in seven of their last eight home fixtures, and five of the Hornets' last six games have featured less than three goals.

Both teams have scored in five of Plymouth's last seven matches, and the Pilgrims have shared the points in each of their previous three league meetings with Watford.

Argyle have scored in nine of their last 12 matches.

Prediction

Plymouth triumphed 2-1 at Portsmouth on their last Championship road trip and can spring a surprise by avoiding defeat against Watford at Vicarage Road.

Only one of Plymouth's seven league wins has been achieved outside of Home Park, but there have been recent signs of improvement on their travels.

Miron Muslic's side have picked up three draws and a win from their last six away league games and they shouldn't be fearful of Watford, who have generally struggled since the turn of the year.

Watford are the second lowest scorers among the top ten teams and their lack of firepower was a contributing factor when they lost 1-0 at Oxford before the international break.

Tom Cleverley's side have registered just two home wins inside the last three months and their struggles may continue against a Plymouth team who are down but not quite out in the relegation scrap.
