Transfer Talk: Liverpool weigh up move for Asensio
Liverpool are weighing up a move for Marco Asensio following reports the Spaniard is unhappy at Real Madrid.
The midfielder has been in and out of the team under Carlo Ancelotti and Spanish outlet ABC claim that the Real boss has deemed him surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu.
That reportedly has Asensio ‘pondering’ his future, putting the Merseysiders on red alert as they consider a move for the 25-year-old.
The news may come as a surprise to Madrid fans after Asensio scored a hat-trick against Mallorca just six days ago.
Aside from one other start, the Spanish international has had to settle for substitute appearances this season and a more integral role within Jurgen Klopp’s side could tempt him away.
The report indicates Los Blancos have been quick to notify clubs across the continent that Asensio is now available.
His current deal expires in 2023, meaning by next summer he will have just one year left to run, which could see Liverpool secure him for a lower fee.
The Reds have expressed interest in Asensio in the past, with Klopp thought to be an admirer of the Spanish international.
City set for Sterling contract talks
Manchester City are set to open contract talks with Raheem Sterling as they look to keep him at the Etihad amid interest from Barcelona.
Sterling has been linked with a move to the Catalan club after a report in Sport claimed they were eyeing up the England star.
The 26-year-old is out of favour at City and the report claimed Sterling was ‘crazy’ about the move.
But the Sun now say Pep Guardiola has no interest in selling the forward and they want to tie him down to a new contract.
Barcelona continue to be plagued by their financial worries which is likely to affect their chances of landing the England winger.
That does however open the door to a possible loan in January, claim Sport — a move that would reportedly suit both parties.
If Barca do go in for Sterling, El Nacional claim Man City will ask for winger Ousmane Dembele in return.
