Manchester City could make a shock move for Paul Pogba when his Manchester United contract expires this summer.

Pep Guardiola is looking for midfield reinforcements and the Mail say Pogba is an option being considered by the Spanish boss.

The 29-year-old looks almost certain to leave arch-rivals United for free for a second time after failing to live up to expectations since his then record £89million move in 2016.

The Citizens are looking for a versatile option in the middle of the park for next season, with club captain Fernandinho braced to leave the Etihad.

West Ham’s Declan Rice had been another target but with the England international reported to cost a fee north of £100m, Pogba would represent a cheaper alternative.

A move to either Paris Saint-Germain or former club Juventus had appeared most likely for the Frenchman, but it is indicated he is open to switching to the blue side of Manchester.

Under regulations, the 2018 World Cup winner is only currently able to discuss moves with foreign clubs, perhaps putting the Premier League outfit at a disadvantage.

But City will be an attractive prospect and certainly have the financial muscle to pull off what would be a dramatic move for the United academy graduate, who is reportedly on £290,000 per week.

Should the free move materialise, it would evoke memories of Carlos Tevez’s infamous switch from United to City in 2009 which caused much controversy.
