Liverpool are reportedly looking to bolster their midfield with Wolves ace Matheus Nunes.

The Reds suffered a disappointing start to 2023 after going down 3-1 at Brentford last night — a game in which they were regularly dominated in the centre of the park.

Jurgen Klopp was keen on Portugal international Nunes in the summer before he joined Wolves for a reported £38million.

And now just five months later, The Telegraph say they will make another attempt to lure him to Anfield in a deal which would cost £44m.

Highly rated when he arrived from Sporting Lisbon, the playmaker has started 12 of Wolves’ 17 top-flight games this term.

It is indicated that if Liverpool are able to strike a deal with the West Midlands outfit, Nunes would join in the summer rather than make a mid-season switch.

The two clubs negotiated amicably during Diogo Jota’s move to Merseyside in 2020, while Nunes’ agent Jorge Mendes was involved in the talks which saw Darwin Nunez sign from Benfica last summer.

And Liverpool believe 11-cap international Nunes is another player who could have a major future at Anfield.

Arsenal have submitted a second bid for Mykhaylo Mudryk but it is well below Shakhtar Donetsk’s £88.5m asking price, say ESPN.
