Transfer Talk: Spurs want Maguire to help keep Kane
Tottenham are interested in signing Harry Maguire — and hope that it could persuade Harry Kane not to pursue a transfer away from the club this summer.
Kane has previously recommended to Spurs that they sign his England colleague and friend, according to The Telegraph.
Maguire is likely to leave Manchester United this summer, four years after they made him the most expensive defender of all time.
The Red Devils paid £80m to land the centre-back from Leicester in 2019 but his Old Trafford career has increasingly been littered with mistakes and he made just eight Premier League starts this season.
Erik ten Hag has selected Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as his first-choice pairing at the back, while Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw also seem to be ahead of Maguire in the pecking order for those positions.
The Three Lions international is said to be aware that he must be playing more regular first-team football in order to keep his place in Gareth Southgate's starting XI ahead of Euro 2024.
When asked about Maguire's lack of playing time, Southgate said last month: "Inevitably it's not a situation that can continue for ever. The longer it goes on, the more concerning it is."
A move to North London as part of Ange Postecoglou's Spurs rebuild could appeal both to Maguire and his international captain.
