Newcastle want to sign Arsenal outcast Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on loan this month — with a view to a £20million permanent summer deal.

The relegation-threatened Magpies are expected to be on the hunt for a striker during the January sales following an injury to Callum Wilson.

Aubameyang’s days at Arsenal look to be numbered after he was stripped of the captaincy by Mikel Arteta for an alleged breach of discipline.

The Gabonese striker, who is now away at the Africa Cup of Nations, has not featured for the Gunners since their 2-1 defeat against Everton on December 6.

And the Mirror claim the Toon will offer the 32-year-old a way out of the Emirates with the offer of a temporary deal until the end of the season.

They have sounded out the possibility of signing Aubameyang permanently at the end of the spell for £20m as their new Saudi-led owners look to make a statement of intent with a host of high-profile incomings.

Aubameyang could follow Kieran Trippier to Tyneside, with the Sunday Telegraph reporting a deal to sign the England international could be completed in the coming days.

The Toon have also been quoted a price of £50m for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez as they look to bolster the squad on multiple fronts, according to the i.
