Transfer Talk: Kane's trophy hunt may force him to spurn Spurs

Harry Kane became Tottenham's all-time top goalscorer on Sunday, netting his 267th strike against Manchester City to secure a 1-0 Premier League win.

The world-class talisman will turn 30 in July and is likely to be considering his future at Spurs, having failed to lift a trophy with the club.

Chairman Daniel Levy will be keen to hand the England captain a contract extension beyond 2024, but Kane may be unwilling to sign if there are no signs of imminent success with the North Londoners.

Both Manchester United and Bayern Munich are reportedly keeping tabs on the seasoned finisher, yet it is unclear whether Levy would be willing to negotiate a deal.

Ahead of Spurs' trip to Leicester on Saturday, we take a look at the options available to Kane this summer.

Biting the bullet

At this moment, the most likely outcome is that Kane will remain at Spurs for at least another year.

Sitting fifth in the table, in the FA Cup fifth round and the Champions League last 16, there is plenty of reasons for optimism at the Tottenham Hostpur Stadium.

When the academy graduate appeared to try to force through a move to City in 2021, it had seemed impossible that the talisman would ever contemplate extending his deal.

However, the beloved No10 delivered an emotional speech to Spurs supporters at the weekend and showed no indications of wanting to depart his boyhood club.

Reports have emerged to suggest that it would take a bid of £100million for Antonio Conte's outfit to even contemplate letting Kane leave.

But as it stands, the Walthamstow native is adamant that he is not thinking about the future and is only focused on delivering Tottenham's first trophy since 2008.

Premier League record

Kane is quickly closing in on Alan Shearer's record of 260 Premier League goals.

Only Wayne Rooney stands between the two gifted finishers but with the 29-year-old only eight behind Rooney's tally, it is conceivable he will consolidate second place by the end of the season, with sights set on top spot before 2025.

With the Tottenham club record now in his possession, Kane could of course climb the league's goalscoring summit at a rival club.

Joining Erik ten Hag's resurgent Red Devils may give Kane both personal accolades and trophies, but at the risk of losing the love and respect he has built up across more than 12 years in Spurs' first team.

Playing it safe

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have also been linked with Kane and are yet to find a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Moving to Germany would allow Kane to undoubtedly challenge for top prizes and incur less acrimony from Tottenham fans. 

Julian Nagelsmann's tactical setup should appeal, with flying wingers Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane producing the opportunities currently offered up to forwards Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Thomas Muller.

Recent reports indicate that a foreign side would be able to pay less for Kane's services as they are not a Premier League rival, with the Bavarians valuing the finisher at up to £80m.

Kane may forfeit the Premier League goalscoring record by sanctioning a move, but if it is silverware he covets most, then there are not too many better places to find yourself than FCB.

Kane staying coy

Kane spoke after the win against City but kept his cards close to his chest when it came to discussing his future.

He said: "I’m just here to perform every game and give my all for the badge. We will see what happens but I’m concentrating on this season.

"We’ve got the FA Cup and Champions League coming up and we’re in a good position in the league to really try and push forward so that’s what I’m concentrating on.

"It’s been an amazing journey. I’ve been here since I was 11 years old, it’s 18 years of my life, a lot of hard work and dedication.

"I’m extremely proud to represent this club and score 267 goals for them and 200 Premier League goals for them is something I’ll never take for granted. I’ve just got to keep it going, score as many as I can and see what happens from there."

Kane will relish the prospect of facing the Foxes next — he has scored 20 goals against the East Midlanders, more than any other side he has faced.

And while it will present another chance to add to his goal tally, much greater opportunities may lie around the corner.
