Transfer Talk: Barcelona plotting Rash move in January
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is a top target for Barcelona — and the England star is said to be open to an approach.
The 24-year-old’s current deal at Old Trafford runs until the summer of 2023 with United also having the option of extending for a further year should they wish.
However, despite remaining a regular starter at his boyhood club, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo suggest a Camp Nou switch is something Rashford would strongly consider.
The report claims that the Red Devils’ huge pool of alternative attacking options has left the forward uncertain over his long-term starting spot.
Conversations have taken place regarding a new contract but no agreement has yet been reached, with a January bid from Barca now thought to be in the pipeline.
The LaLiga giants made an approach for Rashford three years ago but the player opted to sign a new deal with United instead — though he was said to be flattered by the Blaugrana’s interest.
Now, with only two Premier League strikes to his name this term, the prospect of a fresh start away from Old Trafford looks much more viable.
New Barca boss Xavi is desperate to sign a world class forward following Sergio Aguero’s untimely retirement and the board are keen to support their new manager.
However, the Catalonians are still operating under a modest budget due to years of financial mismanagement, meaning any bidding wars in the coming windows are unlikely.
Therefore, reported rival interest from mega-rich Paris Saint-Germain could complicate the situation.
Rashford, who has received global acclaim for his charity work in recent years, will be desperate to rediscover his best form ahead of England’s 2022 World Cup tilt in Qatar next December.
