Manchester City are preparing a bumper new contract for Erling Haaland to stave off interest from Real Madrid.

The Athletic report that a clause in the Norwegian's deal that allowed him to leave for £150million in the summer of 2024 has now been removed.

The clause, which was inserted in the agreement which saw him move from Borussia Dortmund last summer, was linked to manager Pep Guardiola's future in East Manchester.

But with the Catalan boss having extended his contract until 2025 last November, City are now keen to agree fresh terms with their superstar striker.

Haaland has had a stunning first season in English football, scoring 48 goals in 41 appearances.

It is indicated that the prolific ace is similarly keen to prolong his stay at the Etihad despite regular links to LaLiga giants Real.

A switch to the Bernabeu is believed to have always been an ambition for Haaland but he is confident that he is currently at the right club to improve as a player.

The marksman scored his 35th Champions League goal against Bayern Munich last night to seal City's passage into the semi-finals of the competition, where they will face Los Blancos.
