Transfer Talk: Man Utd enter race for Osimhen
Manchester United have emerged as one of the frontrunners to land Victor Osimhen this summer.
However, Erik ten Hag's side will face stiff competition for the Napoli ace's signature in the form of French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
According to The Independent, United — spearheaded by Jim Ratcliffe's new regime — are eager to make a statement purchase as they bid to complete a much-needed squad overhaul.
Osimhen, 25, signed a new contract in Naples until 2026 just last December but the deal has a release clause worth around £100million.
While that figure would make the Nigeria international United's record signing, he is viewed as both an intelligent and forward-thinking purchase.
And as well as being relatively young, Osimhen's abilities as a forward can afford tactical variety to a Red Devils side crying out for a fresh outlook up top.
The ex-Lille marksman has been at the peak of his powers since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, netting four goals in his last three Serie A appearances to take his tally for the season to 11 in 16 showings.
Rasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay are United's joint-top scorers in the Premier League with seven apiece, while Marcus Rashford has only found the back of the net six times in the English top flight this term.
As such, signing a prolific scorer like Osimhen could be the perfect starting point for Ratcliffe's rebuild.
