Timo Werner is closing in on a return to the Premier League with Tottenham, according to Sky Sport Germany, with the North Londoners finalising a loan deal for the German.

Werner, 27, returned to RB Leipzig in 2022 after failing to impress at Chelsea and has struggled to lock down a starting spot under Marco Rose.

He has only made eight appearances in the Bundesliga this term, netting twice and not seeing any minutes since early November.

The 57-cap international showed promise during his early days at Stamford Bridge, recording 27 goal contributions in 52 outings across all competitions in his first season with the Blues.

His breakout season in Germany — when he bagged 34 goals for Leipzig in 2019-20 — originally caught the eye of Frank Lampard and Ange Postecoglou will be hoping to tap into Werner's unfulfilled potential if he arrives at Spurs.

The loss of Heung-Min Son to the Asian Cup for up to six weeks has left the Lilywhites with a lack of firepower in the final third and their attacking woes were evident in the FA Cup win over Burnley.

Only a Pedro Porro wonder strike separated the two teams and Richarlison cut a frustrated figure for much of the game.

Manchester United have also been linked with a move for Werner but look set to miss out, with the Champions League winner favouring a return to London.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims the deal is at the final stages and could be completed soon.
