Enzo Fernandez has told his agent to make contact with Barcelona as he plots a route out of crisis club Chelsea.

World Cup winner Fernandez, 23, has been one of the Blues' star performers during another frustratingly inconsistent campaign for Mauricio Pochettino's men.

Yet Spanish outlet Sport claim the midfielder is becoming disillusioned with life in West London and is "seduced" by the prospect of a switch to Catalonia.

The finances surrounding such a deal are hard to imagine given Chelsea signed Fernandez from Benfica for a Premier League record fee of £106million only a year ago.

His initial contract ran until the summer of 2031 and an extra year has since been added, putting the Blues in a huge position of power when it comes to any sale.

However, the very real prospect of another year without European football will be a bleak image for Fernandez — one of the world's most exciting talents in his position.

The player's agent, Uriel Perez, moved to shut down rumours about his client's future last week in an interview with ESPN.

Perez said: "This came out of the London press, I don't understand why.

"Both Enzo and I are very clear about what this project is [at Chelsea], which was transmitted to me on the day of the World Cup final."

Fernandez has six goals in 29 appearances this term at club level and scored a glorious free-kick in Chelsea's 3-1 FA Cup victory over Aston Villa last weekend.
