Tottenham have completed the signing of highly-rated teenager Lucas Bergvall from Swedish club Djurgarden for a reported £8.5million.

Spurs confirmed the 18-year-old's arrival on Friday after beating Barcelona in the race to land the starlet.

The midfielder, who turned 18 yesterday, will join the North Londoners on July 1.

Bergvall told the Djurgarden website: "It is a great feeling to sign for Tottenham and a dream to have the opportunity to play in the Premier League.

"I have received an incredibly warm reception from the club and feel really welcome.

"I am incredibly excited about the Allsvenskan spring season and will do everything to ensure that it ends in the best possible way."

Sporting director Bosse Andersson added: "This is the biggest player sale in Djurgarden's history.

"All the papers are now signed and from July 1 Lucas Bergvall will transfer to Tottenham. Until then, Lucas will belong to Djurgarden and play for us during the spring season.

"It has been a long process with a number of interested clubs, which then culminated in Lucas visiting two clubs to make his choice himself.

"We have since had a dialogue with both clubs and it feels good that Lucas himself has made his choice based on what he himself believes in."

Bergvall, who made his international debut against Estonia last month, has penned a five-year deal which will keep him at Spurs until 2029.

He came off the bench to make his first senior club appearance when he was just 15 while playing for hometown club IF Brommapojkarna, who won back-to-back promotions to reach the Allsvenskan in 2023.

After being tracked by several clubs across Europe, Bergvall opted to stay in Stockholm and join his brother Theo at Djurgarden.

The talented teen played 25 of the club's 30 games last season, making 29 appearances in all competitions and scoring three goals.

Bergvall's arrival comes after a productive January transfer window for Spurs after bringing in defender Radu Dragusin and forward Timo Werner.
