Reece James has revealed his home was ransacked while he was playing for Chelsea on Tuesday night.

Thieves got away with a safe containing the Champions League and Super Cup medals he won with the Blues, as well his runners-up medal from England's Euro 2020 campaign.

Right-back James, 21, played the full 90 minutes as Thomas Tuchel's men began their defence of European football's greatest prize with a 1-0 victory over Zenit.

But while the Three Lions star was performing at Stamford Bridge, heartless burglars pinched some of his most prized possessions.

Posting on Instagram, James said: "On the evening of September 14, when I was playing for my club in the return of the Champions League, a group of corwardly robbers broke into my house.

"They managed to collectively lift a heavy safe containing some personal items of mine into their car.

"I never keep any jewellery of mine in my house so all that was contained in the safe were my Champions League and Super Cup medals, as well as my runners-up medal for Euro 2020.

"These medals were won representing Chelsea and England — honours that can never be taken away from me whether or not I have the physical medals to prove it."

James was an unused sub as Chelsea defeated Villarreal 6-5 on penalties to lift the Super Cup last month.

But he made the starting line-up for the 1-0 win over Manchester City in last season's Champions League final as the Blues lifted the trophy for the second time in their history.

The defender featured just once at Euro 2020, in the goalless draw against Scotland in the group stage, as England reached the final before suffering penalty shootout heartbreak against Italy.

James added: "I am appealing to all my Chelsea and England fans to help identify and turn in these low-life individuals who will never be able to rest easy as the evidence is mounting against them.

"The police, my advisers and Chelsea (and many others) are all behind me as we have firm leads on who the perpetrators are. We are closing in on them.

"Luckily, no one was present during the break-in but I want to let all of you know I am safe and well.

"I really do appreciate having the platform to tell you all about my misfortune and I hope together we can catch these individuals and deliver justice where it is due."
