This match will decide the winner of Group A, but it would be the shock of the tournament so far, if that victor was not Germany.

Though they entered the tournament in somewhat erratic form, there were signs that Die Mannschaft were flexing their muscles in March, when they won back-to-back games against France and the Netherlands.

They started their Euro 2024 campaign looking like a contender with a 5-1 thrashing of Scotland and they then produced a businesslike 2-0 win over Hungary.

Germany are gradually facing more challenging opposition, with the Swiss unbeaten at the tournament after their opening win over Hungary and draw against Scotland.

That draw with the Scots may have come as a surprise to some, but not to anyone keeping a close enough eye on the recent results of Yakin’s team.

Though Switzerland have only lost once since the World Cup, they have drawn eight of their 16 games, winning seven.

The Swiss would be delighted with another draw under the circumstances, yet even with a loss they should join the Germans in the last-16 as automatic qualifiers.
