Owura Edwards came off the bench to secure a point for Colchester in their 1-1 home draw with Bromley.

Colchester almost went ahead when visiting defender Kamarl Grant’s header towards his own goal was tipped on to the bar by goalkeeper Grant Smith.

Bromley also hit the woodwork in the 18th minute when Michael Cheek’s effort rattled a post, but then took a 23rd-minute lead after Ellis Iandolo had fouled Nyamabu Dinanga in the area, with Cheek netting from the spot.

Smith punched away Jack Payne’s corner from under his crossbar and Samson Tovide also went close before half-time.

Bromley then almost doubled their lead after the break when Colchester goalkeeper Matt Macey tipped away Ashley Charles’ header and then denied Cheek.

However, Colchester equalised after 61 minutse with substitute Edwards prodding home Payne’s deep cross at the far post.

Bromley’s Besart Topalloj was dismissed in the sixth minute of stoppage time for a second yellow following a foul on JK Gordon but the points were shared.
