Stuttgart and Atalanta will meet in what could be a pulsating Champions League clash at the MHPArena on Wednesday.

Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart are back amongst Europe's elite for the first time since the 2009-10 season, but they have impressed so far, notably picking up a 1-0 victory away to Juventus on Matchday Three.

Europa League winners Atalanta are also going along nicely, they remain unbeaten in this season's competition and have also been in red-hot form domestically over recent weeks.

El Bilal Toure scored Stuttgart's winner against Juventus and he is eligible to feature on Wednesday despite being on loan at the MHPArena from Atalanta.

Jeff Chabot (muscular), Yannik Keitel (adductor), Luca Raimund (hip) and Dan-Axel Zagadou (knee) all remain unavailable to head coach Sebastian Hoeness, but defender Leonidas Stergiou could feature after a recent back issue.

Atalanta remain without long-term absentees Gianluca Scamacca and Giorgio Scalvini (both knee), but Marco Brescianini returned as a late substitute in the weekend win at Napoli following a thigh issue and could now be ready for a more prominent role.

The stats

Stuttgart have lost just one of their last nine matches across all competitions, while they are unbeaten at the MHPArena for more than a year since losing to Hoffenheim in October 2023 — a run of 20 matches.

Die Roten's victory over Juventus on Matchday Three was their first success in a Champions League game since beating Unirea Urziceni in December 2009.

The German side have both scored and conceded in all six of their home matches this season.

Atalanta are unbeaten in eight matches across all competitions and Sunday's 3-0 win against league leaders Napoli was their fifth Serie A victory on the bounce.

La Dea are also the leading scorers in the Italian top flight, netting 29 goals across their 11 games to date.

Gian Piero Gasperini's side are unbeaten in this season's Champions League, but they have won only two of their last 11 matches in the competition.

Prediction

If Atalanta can bring their recent impressive form in Serie A into this game then they have every chance of picking up the points, but Stuttgart are also in good nick and showed against Juventus in their last European match that they can mix it with the very best Italy has to offer.

That makes picking a winner from this match difficult, but one thing that should be guaranteed is goals.

Stuttgart have scored in all of their European matches to date this term, while there has been an average of nearly four goals-per-game scored in their nine Bundesliga fixtures.

Atalanta may have drawn a blank in two of their three continental games to date, but they had more shots and possession than Arsenal on Matchday One, while against Celtic they racked up 22 efforts on goal.

La Dea have scored 18 goals across their last six domestic fixtures, putting six past Verona and five on Genoa during that time. Stuttgart will represent a step up when compared to those two teams and the goals should flow at both ends on Wednesday as a result.
