Nottingham Forest have sacked manager Steve Cooper after a poor run of results.

Friday's defeat to Tottenham was the last straw for Forest, who have slipped dangerously close to the relegation zone in recent weeks.

The search is now on to find the right candidate to keep them up with reports suggesting Nuno Espirito Santo is flying in for talks.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis said: "Everyone at Nottingham Forest would like to thank Steve for his superb contribution to our football club.

"His achievement in guiding Forest back to the Premier League will undoubtedly remain an iconic moment in the club's history.

"We thank Steve for his dedication and commitment during his time with us, as well as the incredible connection he forged with our supporters and the city of Nottingham.

"Steve will always remain a friend of the club and will forever be welcome at The City Ground. We wish him well in his future endeavours."

Cooper departs as a hero after ending the club's 23-year wait for top-tier football by guiding them to promotion in the 2021-22 season.

And he earned further credit for keeping the Tricky Trees in the Premier League while juggling a staggering 30 new signings last term.

But reports of his potential demise have persisted since that promotion and a run of one win in 13 matches was enough for the club to make a change.

Rumoured replacement Nuno was last in work at Al-Ittihad having made a name for himself in the English game at Wolves between 2017 and 2021.

He was briefly in charge of Tottenham later in 2021 before being replaced by Antonio Conte.
