Shilow Tracey’s double and a header from Joel Tabiner helped Crewe secure a 3-1 comeback win over Tranmere to move up to fifth in League Two.

Connor Jennings handed Tranmere an early lead but the Railwaymen hit back with two goals either side of the interval from Tracey before Tabiner wrapped up the points.

There was plenty of early action at Gresty Road as Zac Williams went close for Crewe with a downward header from Max Sanders’ corner which just missed the target.

Tabiner then curled a free-kick towards the top corner which Rovers goalkeeper Luke McGee did well to turn around.

But Tranmere went up the other end straight away to take an eighth-minute lead. Harvey Saunders forced his way clear on the right of the box and squared for Jennings, who applied a close-range finish.

Crewe came back strongly but Tabiner, again showing his shooting prowess, drove straight at McGee.

The Railwaymen were level six minutes before half-time when Ryan Cooney picked out Tracey with a low cross and the striker diverted the ball through McGee’s legs.

Lee Bell’s side forged ahead in the 54th minute with Tracey in the right spot inside the box to deftly help on another Cooney delivery into the top corner.

McGee pushed out a low drive from Williams and Tracey threatened on more than one occasion to grab his hat-trick, flashing one effort across the face of goal.

But it was the striker who turned provider with a pinpoint cross for Tabiner, who planted a downward header into the bottom corner to seal victory in the 84th minute.
