Five stars who could move to Saudi Arabia before Thursday's deadline

The Saudi Pro League has been a disruptive force in the transfer market this summer — and it still has time to make its presence felt further.

Saudi clubs have an extra six days on the majority of Europe to sign players and considering the talent that has already made the move, it would be a surprise should there not be one or two more eye-catching deals to be done.

We take a look at the players who could still be tempted by a switch before Thursday's deadline.

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

Mohamed Salah to Al-Ittihad is the story that Jurgen Klopp says does not exist but will not go away.

The Saudi side left their interest in the Egyptian ace late, only fronting up with a bid reportedly worth £150million in the final hours of the European transfer window.

Liverpool would likely have considered a sale earlier in the summer but seem set to have to deal with one more offer this week — as well as renewed interest in the coming months.

Nayef Aguerd (West Ham)

Aguerd is another footballing star of the Arab world who could be tempted away to the Saudi Pro League this week.

The Moroccan defender was a key part of West Ham's Europa Conference League success last season but would reportedly see his salary multiplied by 10 should he make the switch.

The Hammers will be reluctant to let him go but have at least signed Konstantinos Mavropanos to cover his absence.

Demarai Gray (Everton)

Demarai Gray has made his intentions clear this week, posting on Instagram that "it's so difficult to play for someone who doesn't show you respect as a person".

The tension between Gray and Everton boss Sean Dyche is reportedly partly due to the Toffees' reluctance to sell the winger to Al-Ettifaq, managed by Steven Gerrard.

With seemingly no way back for the former Leicester trickster under Dyche, it may be in everybody's best interests to get the deal done.

Jadon Sancho (Manchester United)

It seems possible that Jadon Sancho's public disagreement with Erik ten Hag has put an end to his Manchester United career under the Dutchman.

And with few options left for an immediate departure from Old Trafford, Sancho could consider a switch to the Saudi Pro League.

The forward, 23, is still of an age where he could make a return to European football down the line so a move does not seem out of the question. 

Paul Pogba (Juventus)

Despite featuring in two of Juventus' three Serie A matches so far this season, rumours linking Pogba with a move to the Middle East persist.

The French midfielder has suffered from injuries since returning to Juve last summer, making 10 appearances in all competitions in 2022-23, and there are legitimate fears that his career at the top level is over.

He is reportedly of interest to Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad and would be the latest huge name to be attracted to the region.
