- The Scottish League Cup group stage is nearing its climax, with the final round of games taking place.
- Recommended bets:
-
Alloa Athletic to win
-
Dundee to win and both teams to score

The Scottish League Cup kicks off earlier than most British competitions, meaning sides have already played three or four matches in the knockout tournament.

Aberdeen and Hibernian are understandably cruising in their respective sections, although shocks are still on the cards, especially in Group F, where Premiership side St Johnstone are currently sitting third.

There are 15 matches on Saturday and one on Sunday and we have picked out our two best bets for the weekend action.

Greenock Morton vs Alloa Athletic (Saturday, 3pm)

The stats

Greenock Morton made the second round last season but have already been eliminated this time around, despite having two games left to play.

The hosts have won only two of their last eight competitive home games and could struggle against a side who are top of Group F and who have won four of their last seven competitive away matches.

Prediction

Alloa are leading the way in Group F having beaten Premiership side St Johnstone 3-2 last time out and a win against Morton would see them top the section.

Athletic should be confident too, having won four of their last seven competitive games on the road, and despite being in a division below their hosts, the stats point towards an away win given Morton have won just two of their last eight competitive home matches.

Greenock have already been eliminated from the League Cup and may opt to rest players ahead of their league campaign, leaving the door open for Alloa to take all three points to seal top spot and a place in the second round.

Dundee v Inverness (Saturday, 3pm)

The stats

Dundee have won all three of their League Cup games this season and are unbeaten in four meetings with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Caley Thistle may have just four points from their three matches, but they have been impressive at the back, conceding just once in their trio of fixtures.

Prediction

Dundee have enjoyed a better League Cup campaign this time around after crashing out at the first hurdle last term and they can complete a perfect group stage with a win over Inverness on Saturday.

The Dark Blues have won their three matches by an aggregate score of 12-2 and they have dominated the section.

They should have too much for Inverness, who were relegated from the Scottish Championship last season, but the Premiership outfit may have to work hard for the win.

Caley Thistle have conceded just once in their three League Cup games this term, with Duncan Ferguson’s tough love clearly working wonders on the defensive end.

They will look to keep things tight against Dundee and they are unlikely to be trounced by their Premiership foes, even if they fail to pick up any points.
