Sam Kerr is ready to commit her future to Women's Super League champions Chelsea.

The Australia striker, 29, netted the only goal of the game against Manchester United last Sunday as the Blues leapfrogged their title rivals to return to the top of the table.

Having joined the Londoners from Chicago Red Stars in 2019, she has one year left on her contract.

But speaking to BBC Radio London, Kerr revealed she is keen to extend her stay.

She said: "Hopefully I stay here as long as I can. Hopefully there's a lot more goals and a lot more games and we go from there."

Chelsea boss Emma Hayes hailed Kerr as the "best in the business" last month and the forward is equally complimentary when it comes to her manager.

She added: "I have a special relationship with Emma. She gets the best out of me, as you can tell in the last two years.

"If you're listening Emma, sign me up."

The 1-0 victory over United at Kingsmeadow put Chelsea two points clear at the top, with a game in hand, as they bid for a sixth WSL title.

And Kerr is relishing the battle to finish top of the pile once again. She said: "It's weird because it's heating up, it's getting tight, but I don't think we've ever had a five-point lead.

"So it's weird it feels like the hardest. Last season and the one before it was two points and one point, so I'm ready for a twist.

"I'm ready for something to go down where it gets even tighter because it feels like there's pressure on every game."

Chelsea host Reading in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday before heading to Lyon for the first leg of their Champions League last-eight clash on Wednesday.

They resume their quest for WSL glory at title rivals Manchester City on March 26.
