Rob Edwards admitted he is relieved Luton are still in the FA Cup after they edged through their third-round replay at Bolton.

The Hatters fell behind to Dion Charles' goal after 11 minutes before Tahith Chong and Chiedozie Ogbene scored either side of the break to secure a comeback win.

But Edwards knows his side could have been punished by the impressive League One outfit.

The Luton boss said: "I'm pleased we are through, tonight was about winning.

"We were not at our best. We were sloppy in too many moments and allowed them to build into the game.

"We dropped a bit and you can't do that. Bolton are a big club but when we are favourites, we took our foot off the gas and they could have punished us."

Luton will play either Everton or Crystal Palace in the fourth round, a tie Edwards acknowledged his side will need to be at "full tilt to win".

As they enter their winter break, the 41-year-old will use the next 11 days to give his side a much-needed break.

He said: "We're going away for some warm weather, getting training in and time together.

"It has been a tough season so far and everything with Locks [Tom Lockyer] as well.

"It has been an emotional time."

The Hatters will return to action with that cup tie on January 27 before Premier League games against Brighton and Newcastle in the seven days that follow.

Bolton play Leyton Orient in League One on Saturday.
