Real Madrid are top of the table in Spain under Carlo Ancelotti

- Two of Real Madrid’s last eight wins have been by 3-0
- Real Madrid have kept clean sheets in six of their last nine home games
- Recommended bet: Real Madrid to win 3-0

Real Madrid finished 2023 at the top of the LaLiga standings and they will be looking to cement the position when taking on Mallorca at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are unbeaten since September although they needed an injury-time goal from Lucas Vazquez to secure a tense 1-0 success away to lowly Alaves last time out.

They will be hoping for a more comfortable experience against Mallorca, who remain at risk of relegation despite showing improvement in recent weeks.

Mallorca signed off for the festive period with a 3-2 success at home to Osasuna but have not won on their travels since September.

Team news

Eduardo Camavinga (knee) Dani Carvajal (calf) and Vinicius Junior (thigh) could make their returns from injury after returning to training over the recent two-week break.

Thibaut Courtois, David Alaba, Eder Militao (all cruciate knee injuries) and Ferland Mendy (muscle strain) remain unavailable and Nacho has to serve a one-game suspension.

Midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni may have to drop into defence alongside Antonio Rudiger.

Defender Martin Valjent (knee) and forward Vedat Muriqi (calf) are sidelined for Mallorca and left back Jaume Costa must serve a one-match suspension.

Left back Toni Lato has recovered from a minor injury and midfielder Omar Mascarell is a doubt after missing the 3-2 success at home to Osasuna.

The stats

Real Madrid are unbeaten in their last 17 matches, winning eight of their last nine fixtures and they are on a run of five successive victories at the Bernabeu.

Los Blancos have kept clean sheets in six of their last nine home matches.

Mallorca are unbeaten in their last six fixtures.

Javier Aguirre’s side have won their last two league home games but have failed to win any of their last six away.

Nine of Mallorca’s last 10 LaLiga games have featured less than three goals.

Prediction

The two-week break has afforded Real Madrid a chance to recover a few senior players and it should help them to deliver an improved performance and a comfortable victory over Mallorca in the capital.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side were showing a few signs of tiredness towards the end of a hectic 2023 and were relieved to sign off the calendar year with a hard-fought 1-0 victory away to relegation-threatened Alaves.

However, they have got some key players back, including Vinicius Junior, who is poised to make his first appearance since mid-November.

Mallorca should also be refreshed although they might have wanted to carry on playing after finishing 2023 on a six-game unbeaten sequence.

Thanks to their recent revival Mallorca are firmly on course to stay up. However, they have won just one of nine LaLiga away games and are unlikely to seriously trouble Real.
