Ronaldo among Real Madrid's seven most iconic No7s

Real Madrid have had some truly special No7s over their history.

The iconic shirt has been worn by some of Los Blancos' greatest players.

Ahead of Real Madrid's Champions League match against RB Leipzig tonight, we look back at seven of their most magnificent No7s, including the current incumbent.

7. Vinicius Junior (2018-present)

In his sixth season at Real Madrid, Vinicius Junior seized upon the opportunity to claim the No7 shirt.

Eden Hazard's departure created the opening and it says much for the Brazilian's stature that he was the natural choice to inherit the honour.

The famous shirt fits well on Vinicius, who is enjoying another productive season, with 14 goals in 25 games so far.

6. Amancio (1962-1976)

Vinicius follows in the footsteps of another flying winger who was a legendary No7 for Real, in the shape of Amancio.

Signed from Deportivo La Coruna in 1962, Amancio spent 14 seasons at Real Madrid, winning nine league titles.

The Galician was also part of the team that won the 1965-66 European Cup, levelling the scores against Partizan Belgrade before Fernando Serena decided the final.

5. Raymond Kopa (1956-1959)

Long before Zinedine Zidane graced the Bernabeu, another Frenchman pulled the strings in a great Real side — Raymond Kopa.

The inside forward was signed from Reims in 1956 and spent three years in the Spanish capital, winning the European Cup each season, as well as the Ballon d'Or in 1958.

His team-mate Juan Santisteban summed up his abilities by saying: "Raymond Kopa did magic, amazing things you didn't think possible."

4. Juanito (1977-1987)

After slipping through the net at Atletico Madrid, Juanito became one of the greatest ever No7s for their bitter local rivals.

Upon arrival at the club he said: "Playing for Real Madrid is like touching the sky."

He left as a legend, winning five LaLiga titles, two Copa del Rey crowns and two UEFA Cups. Tragically. Juanito lost his life in a car crash in 1992 at the age of 37.

3. Emilio Butragueno (1984-1995)

Emilio Butragueno was known as El Buitre in Spain and "The Vulture" was certainly a deadly finisher.

The Real Madrid academy product made his debut in 1984 and would hit double figures in front of goal for eight consecutive LaLiga seasons.

Butragueno's finishing helped the club win 15 major trophies.

2. Raul (1994-2010)

When Butragueno's time at Real came to an end, the No7 mantle was passed to Raul.

Over 16 years he became a legend. No other player has made more appearances for Los Merengues than his mammoth total of 741 games.

With 323 goals, Raul is also Madrid's third highest scorer, in a career that saw the forward win six LaLiga titles and three Champions League trophies.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (2009-2018)

Cristiano Ronaldo originally wore the No9 shirt at Real until Raul departed and the Portuguese forward took on the responsibility.

It is fair to say he proved himself worthy of wearing the iconic shirt. No player has scored more goals for the club than CR7's incredible tally of 450 in 438 games.

During his time in Spain, Ronaldo and Madrid conquered all, winning the Champions League on four occasions and the Club World Cup three times.
