Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund predictions: German giants to score this time
- Real Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in last season's final at Wembley
- Dortmund are leading the current Champions League table with maximum points
- Recommended bet: Real Madrid to win and both teams to score
The Champions League holders Real Madrid will be looking to bounce back with a home victory, having surprisingly lost 1-0 away at Lille in the last round of fixtures.
Borussia Dortmund are top of the Champions League table, having enjoyed two comprehensive victories so far, but they have been erratic in the Bundesliga, where they are currently in seventh position.
Team news
Real Madrid will be without the injured Dani Carvajal, David Alaba and Brahim Diaz, but Kylian Mbappe has recovered from a muscular injury and found the net in the 2-1 win against Celta Vigo on Saturday.
Carlo Ancelotti switched to a three-man defence for that LaLiga fixture, which included Aurelien Tchouameni in his back line.
Dortmund will be without Yan Couto, Giovanni Reyna, Karim Adeyemi and Julien Duranville due to injury, while Niklas Sule and Pascal Gross are also doubts.
The stats
Real Madrid are 17th in the Champions League table with three points, having beaten Stuttgart 3-1, before losing to Lille.
Dortmund already have a huge goal difference of +9, after winning 3-0 at Club Brugge and then thrashing Celtic 7-1.
Madrid have conceded at least once, in six of their last seven games.
Dortmund have lost their last two away matches, with Stuttgart beating them 5-1 in September and Union Berlin defeating them 2-1 earlier this month.
Prediction
Since losing to Lille in their last Champions League outing, Real Madrid have recorded back-to-back wins, first defeating Villarreal 2-0 at home and then winning 2-1 at Celta Vigo over the weekend.
Neither victory was particularly convincing and Ancelotti’s team could do with another confidence-boosting victory, ahead of their El Clasico clash with a Barcelona side that are three points ahead of them in LaLiga.
Since losing to Madrid in the final of last season’s Champions League, Borussia Dortmund have parted ways with Edin Terzic and appointed their former midfielder Nuri Sahin as their manager.
Under their new coach, Dortmund have won all five of their home games, but have looked far less secure on the road, failing to win any of their three away fixtures in the Bundesliga.
Despite this record, the Germans have scored in four of their five away games across all competitions this season and could find the net in defeat to a Real side that are somewhat leaky right now.
