Women's Euro 2022 is bringing football home this summer — and Rachel Yankey will be on hand to deliver her expert insight throughout the tournament.

LiveScore's latest signing was capped 129 times by England during a glittering playing career that included two trophy-laden spells with Arsenal.

She was also part of the Great Britain side at London 2012, making five appearances as Hope Powell's team reached the Olympic quarter-finals.

Awarded both an MBE and OBE for services to football, Yankey is perfectly placed to call the action as 16 nations battle for glory across 10 venues on English soil this month.

The former England skipper, 42, said: "I’m really excited to be part of the team. I hope I can bring to life the games in my own words and that everyone enjoys my columns."

Sarina Wiegman's Lionesses kick off their Euro 2022 campaign on Wednesday night at Old Trafford.

And Yankey is confident they will handle the weight of expectation that playing on home soil and being tipped as tournament favourites has placed on their shoulders.

She added: "It does bring extra pressure. There will be nerves, there will be excitement, but I think the players are well versed now in embracing the tournament.

"You’ve got a mixture of youth and experience — and usually youth just wants to go out there and play — so I think it’s a good blend.

"Fingers crossed they won’t see it as pressure but as a challenge. It’s important to start your tournament well, so let’s hope they can get three points against Austria."

Record breaking

Women's football continues to go from strength to strength and Euro 2022 promises to see records galore tumble.

Each of the Lionesses' group games will be played in front of a capacity crowd and the final is set to smash the biggest attendance recorded for a women's match in England.

The London 2012 Olympic final between the United States and Japan attracted 80,203 fans — but 87,200 tickets have been snapped up for the Euro 2022 showpiece at Wembley.

That means the game on July 31 will surpass the mark for ANY European Championship final, which is currently Spain's win over the Soviet Union in 1964, when 79,115 fans packed into the Bernabeu.
