PSG vs Girona predictions: Hosts set to make a flying start
- PSG are currently top of Ligue 1
- Girona lie seventh in LaLiga in Spain
- Recommended bet: PSG to score over 2.5 total goals
Paris Saint-Germain's annual quest to finally be crowned European champions begins with a home clash against debutants Girona in the revamped Champions League on Wednesday.
PSG have made a fantastic start to the season, winning all four of their Ligue 1 games, scoring 16 goals in the process.
They sit top of the table with a maximum 12 points, but now switch focus to the Champions League and it is likely to be a similar story with another goal-laden home victory forthcoming when they entertain debutants Girona.
Team news
PSG are set to be without first-choice goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is struggling with a muscle strain, while midfielders Warren Zaire-Emery and Vitinha are also unlikely to have shaken off their recent injury problems in time to feature.
Girona have no reported fresh injury issues for the clash at the Parc des Princes, but boss Michel could make changes following the 4-1 home defeat against Barcelona at the weekend.
Daley Blind, Bryan Gil and Arnaut Danjuma should all keep their places, while Cristhian Stuani, who came off the bench to score on Sunday, is pushing for a start.
The stats
PSG have won all four of their Ligue 1 games this season by an aggregate score of 16-3.
Luis Enrique's side have scored at least three goals in all four of their outings so far.
Girona have conceded eight goals in five LaLiga games this season.
This is PSG's 15th consecutive Champions League campaign, with their best showing coming in 2020 when they were beaten in the final by Bayern Munich.
Girona are preparing for the club's first-ever foray into European competition after last season's third-place finish in Spain.
Prediction
PSG may have lost star forward Kylian Mbappe over the summer, but they have not missed the France international much judging by their blistering start to the new season.
Enrique's side have so far hammered Le Havre 4-1 and Montpellier 6-0 in the league, before back-to-back 3-1 victories over Lille and Brest.
That is the sort of form to worry any opponent and Girona, who are making their bow in the Champions League after finishing in a superb third place in Spain last season, could be on the end of a heavy opening defeat.
Girona have tellingly lost 3-0 and 4-1 to Atletico Madrid and Barca already this season to suggest they are in for a much more difficult campaign this time around.
Therefore, up against another of the continent's heavyweights in their European opener, they may be outclassed in Paris.
