Premier League team guide: Everton in the spotlight

Everton will be hoping to improve on yet another dismal Premier League campaign in 2023-24 as Sean Dyche prepares for his first full season in charge.

The Toffees have made just two signings so far this summer and have released a number of first-team players after their contracts expired in June.

Dyche managed to rescue the club from relegation on the final day but has another tough job on his hands as the Merseysiders look to go again this term.

Everton's home form was enough to keep them in the top flight and a huge win against Bournemouth at Goodison Park on the final day meant that it was Leicester who suffered at their expense.

Frank Lampard held the reins during the first half of the season but three wins in 20 games cost the England legend his job after less than a year in charge.

Nineteen of their 36 points in the league came after Dyche was appointed at the end of January and a victory over Arsenal in his first game in charge was enough to set the Toffees on a path to safety.

New faces

Dyche has spoken about the difficulties Everton have encountered in the transfer market so far but they have managed to secure the loan signing of Arnaut Danjuma.

The Villarreal winger spent last term on loan at Tottenham after originally snubbing the Toffees, but he has now committed the next 12 months of his career to the Premier League ever-presents.

He only made nine top-flight appearances and scored one goal during his stay in North London but he captured the excitement of Spurs fans whenever he was on the pitch.

Ashley Young is another new face to arrive at Goodison Park after ending his time at Aston Villa.

His experience and leadership will be crucial if Everton are to maintain their record of playing in England's top division since 1954.

One to watch: Amadou Onana

At 21 years old Amadou Onana has already cemented his place as a regular starter for both Everton and Belgium.

The powerful midfielder made 33 Premier League appearances last season and put his body on the line in every match, picking up nine yellow cards and making 72 tackles.

Despite interest from both Arsenal and Chelsea, the 6ft 4in anchor has vowed to give his all in an Everton shirt and lift them up the table in the new campaign.

The boss: Sean Dyche

Dyche was a popular figure at Burnley and he kept them afloat in the top flight against the odds and on a tight budget.

The 52-year-old has already had an impact since taking the reins on Merseyside and his robust, defensive style of play will be effective should the Toffees find themselves fighting relegation once again.

Dyche famously guided the Clarets into Europe five seasons ago and Everton fans will be hoping he can perform a similar miracle with them despite a lack of backing from the board.
