Eagles hamstrung

Roy Hodgson has defended his decision to bring on Michael Olise against Brighton after receiving criticism from Crystal Palace fans.

The forward, who aggravated a hamstring injury, faces months on the sidelines having come on as a substitute when the Eagles were 3-0 down in a match they ultimately lost 4-1. 

Hodgson said: "That's them [the fans] suggesting he was carrying an injury. I don't think he was carrying an injury, I think it was more fatigue. 

"It's not easy when you've got a player like Olise on the bench to turn around and say, 'Just sit there'. 

"Michael is a quiet guy and that's another part of this situation. Another player might have come up and said, 'Look, I don't think it's worth it. I need a bit more time'. 

"Injuries happen at any time. He could have come on for five minutes and done it, or he could have not come on at all and done it in training." 

Ten Hag on youth crop

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed his thoughts on the development on the latest crop of young talent at Old Trafford. 

The likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund are all now established in the Dutchman's team and performing well. 

Ten Hag said: "Players need time especially young players like Rasmus and Alejandro.

"They need time, but also they need a team, so those effects were not there in the first half of the season. 

"We have to make a lot of adjustments in our way of playing so it was difficult to serve the offensive part of the team. When it happens it can go really quickly for players to progress. 

"From the start I was confident they have the potential to do what they are doing and now it is about keeping going, keep moving, be hungry." 

Wilder remaining positive

Chris Wilder claims he has not given up hope of keeping Sheffield United in the Premier League. 

The Blades boss was speaking ahead of the upcoming six-pointer against Luton, with his side currently sitting bottom of the English top flight. 

Wilder said: "No, I never give up on hope and even if the league table says that's us done and dusted, there's always something to play for, in my opinion. 

"Game by game, you come to accept it and you have to accept it in the position that we're in. 

"That there's going to be an opinion on you and you have to take that on the chin, because there's no hiding place. 

"It's the Premier League, it's streamed, it's broadcast worldwide and everything that goes with it, that everybody enjoys. We all enjoy being part of it."

Kompany not gone under

Vincent Kompany has stated that Burnley's struggles in the Premier League have been a positive for his self-development and understanding. 

He said: "I get to learn about myself and I like what I see of myself in a difficult situation. 

"In every single job or new chapter you start with an idea of how you want to be when you're at your best and an idea of how you want to be at your lowest. 

"But to follow the course when all the emotions kick in and there are outside forces is really difficult. 

"I know I prefer to win, but in a situation like this I've not lost a single bit of motivation, I've not lost clarity about the situation. I've not lost the sense of responsibility or belief. 

"That's why I don't want to deflect. I don't want to start saying we should have had more or this or that. It's about us."

Toff luck

Sean Dyche has addressed Everton's poor results after six games without a victory in the Premier League. 

He said: "We haven't found that win, but we've been looking solid in our performances and before that we won four on the trot. 

"If you add it all together, it's a healthy return.

"Clean sheets are a good thing, you've got to take your chances and we have created chances in amongst those clean sheets but it is a good marker. 

"If you're defending right as a team and you're working hard, obviously you increase your chances of winning games. 

"We're right in every game. There have been a couple that have got away from us this season, but not many, we've been right in every game." 

Frank talk on Dasilva blow

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has spoken about the knee ligament injury that Josh Dasilva picked up in training, which will see the midfielder require surgery. 

Ahead of the Bees' trip to Wolves on Saturday, the Danish tactician expressed his sympathy for the 25-year-old and addressed other fitness issues in his squad. 

Frank said: "It's very sad. I feel for Josh massively. He has been very unlucky. 

"He's a player I've been working with for a long time. 

"So normally over time relationships grow and he's a lovely person so that was tough to take. 

"The other players that were out are still out."
