Transfer Talk: Premier League out-of-contract XI

There are a handful of Premier League stars who could be searching for a new club when their contract expires in 2023.

Players can begin talks with other clubs six months before their deals come to an end — meaning we may see some signing pre-contracts with new teams ahead of next summer.

We have put together a combined XI, plus substitutes, of the best Premier League talent who will be considering their future.

Goalkeeper: David de Gea (Manchester United)

David de Gea was unlucky to miss out on a place in the Spain squad for the World Cup in Qatar after an excellent run of form for Manchester United this season.

De Gea, 32, has started all 14 Premier League matches under Erik ten Hag but is yet to put pen to paper on what would likely be his last big contract.

Averaging 2.71 saves per 90 minutes in England's top flight so far this campaign, the ex-Atletico Madrid stopper would be a quality addition to any club in Europe and is still capable of playing at the highest level.

Left-back: Luke Shaw (Manchester United)

Another among a host of players who could be set to leave Old Trafford in 2023 is full-back Luke Shaw.

The 28-cap England international has seen his stock rise in recent months following the Three Lions' run to the World Cup quarter-finals and United's improved results in the league.

Having spent over eight years in Manchester, it may be time for Shaw to try his trade at another club and at 27, he still has a significant amount of playing time left.

Centre-back: Caglar Soyuncu (Leicester)

Caglar Soyuncu, 26, was dubbed a future star when he joined Leicester in 2018, but it has not quite worked out for the Turkish defender.

The Foxes sit 13th in the table following a disastrous start under Brendan Rodgers, but mounted a comeback before domestic action was paused.

Soyuncu is capable of providing stability in the backline and played a key role in the East Midlands side's FA Cup triumph in 2021.

Centre-back: Yerry Mina (Everton)

Plagued with injury for much of the season, Yerry Mina is a defender who will have clubs across Europe keeping an eye on his situation at Everton.

The Colombian has only featured once in the Premier League in 2022-23, but is a powerhouse at full fitness.

His injury record is something that may give some sides reservations about an approach, but there is no doubting that the 28-year-old is capable of great things.

Right-back: Nelson Semedo (Wolves)

Nelson Semedo appeared to be a coup for Wolves when he joined from Barcelona in 2020, and the appointment of Julen Lopetegui may convince him to sign a new deal at Molineux.

A regular starter under former boss Bruno Lage, the Portuguese international is known for his speed and attacking prowess from right-back.

A two-time LaLiga winner, the 24-cap international may be part of a new era in the West Midlands as Wolves look to climb off bottom spot in the table.

Central midfielder: N'Golo Kante (Chelsea)

Much has been said of N'Golo Kante's situation at Chelsea — he is another who has seen little first-team action this season due to injury and is yet to play a minute under Graham Potter.

Regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders to grace the Premier League in recent years, the Frenchman is entering the twilight of his career but is likely to have suitors should he leave the Blues next summer.

The 31-year-old has been linked with other clubs in England's top flight and would still be an asset to any team.

Central midfielder: Youri Tielemans (Leicester)

It seemed that Youri Tielemans was destined for a move away from the King Power Stadium last summer, but has remained a Leicester player for now.

Reports linked him with Arsenal and Tottenham and he could make a switch as a free agent instead. 

The 25-year-old has three goals in 15 Premier League appearances this season with the pick of the bunch coming against Wolves back in October.

Central midfielder: Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City)

Heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, Ilkay Gundogan would be a big loss for Manchester City if he were to leave on a free.

The Germany star provides a cool head in the centre of midfield but may seek an exit having won 11 trophies in his six-year spell at the Etihad.

Having recently turned 32, the former Borussia Dortmund man may look to switch things up and face a new challenge overseas.

Left-winger: Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace)

Wilfried Zaha has been a loyal servant to Crystal Palace and even returned to Selhurst Park when his move to United in 2013 did not pay off. 

The Ivorian trickster has been a star man under Patrick Vieira and has six goals and two assists to his name as the Eagles push for a spot in the top half of the Premier League table.

But with Champions League football a spoken desire for the 30-year-old, we may finally see Zaha move on in 2023.

Centre forward: Roberto Firmino (Liverpool)

The arrival of Darwin Nunez gave the impression that Roberto Firmino's role at Liverpool would be limited, but the Braziliian has been more prolific than ever for the Reds.

With seven goals and three assists in 13 league appearances, Firmino looks a man reborn despite the Merseysiders' tricky start to the season.

There is a possibility that the Premier League and Champions League winner could extend his stay at Anfield, but the forward may seek a move away following a seven-year spell at the club.

Right-winger: Marcus Rashford (Manchester United)

Marcus Rashford thrived on the international stage in Qatar despite only getting one start in England's World Cup campaign.

His three goals in five appearances complement the six goal contributions he has provided in a red shirt in the Premier League this season.

Paris Saint-Germain are said to have expressed their interest in the 25-year-old, but the Manchester-born attacker is just as likely to sign a new deal to remain at the Theatre of Dreams.
