Premier League Matchday 4: Arsenal and Man Utd renew rivalry

Premier League Matchday 4 sees Arsenal and Manchester United renew one of the top flight's classic rivalries.

Champions Manchester City are at home to Fulham before Brighton collide with Newcastle on Saturday as Liverpool face a tricky home encounter against Aston Villa a day later.

We run through the key stats ahead of all 10 Premier League games.

Luton vs West Ham (Friday, 8pm, Sky Sports)

Luton's first ever Premier League game at Kenilworth Road kicks off the weekend as the Hatters host in-form West Ham.

Rob Edwards' men have lost both games since promotion to the Premier League but will be hoping home advantage can give them an edge over an Irons side that have won two and drawn once so far.

Luton are actually unbeaten in their last eight home encounters in the top division, with the Hammers last to get the better of them in January 1992.

Sheffield United vs Everton (Saturday, 12.30pm, TNT Sports)

Two winless sides meet at Bramall Lane when Sheffield United and Everton face off in Saturday's early game.

With three successive defeats each, it is only the fifth occasion that two Premier League teams meet on zero points having played three times — the most recent being Arsenal's clash with Norwich in September 2021.

The Toffees are winless in their last six Premier League away games against promoted sides (three draws, three defeats), while boss Sean Dyche has won just one of his five games against the Blades in all competitions (two draws, two defeats).

Brentford vs Bournemouth (Saturday, 3pm)

Bournemouth are on the hunt for their first win under manager Andoni Iraola as they visit Brentford.

Recent meetings suggest that wait could continue, with the Bees victorious in their last four home games versus the South Coast side and unbeaten in 10 overall on their own turf (six wins, four draws).

Bryan Mbeumo has been involved in eight goals in his last six Premier League games (six goals, two assists), while opposing forward Dominic Solanke has contributed seven in 11 (three goals, four assists).

Burnley vs Tottenham (Saturday, 3pm)

Burnley are the third promoted side still looking for their first win of the season as they welcome a rejuvenated Tottenham to Turf Moor.

Spirits are high at Spurs under Ange Postecoglou despite being knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the second round earlier this week, with two wins and a draw to their name in the top flight.

The Clarets won 1-0 in their last Premier League home meeting with Spurs in February 2022. However, the North Londoners boast a record of 10 wins in 16 meetings in the competition overall (three draws, three defeats).

Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest (Saturday, 3pm)

Chelsea will hope to make it successive home league victories when Nottingham Forest visit after dispatching Luton last time out.

The 3-0 win last Friday ended a run of nine games without success at Stamford Bridge in all competitions, while the Blues have not won two league matches in a row on home soil since last October.

Raheem Sterling was left out of England's squad despite an impressive start to the campaign. The 28-year-old netted all three of the Blues' goals against Forest last term. 

Meanwhile, Reds striker Taiwo Awoniyi has scored in his last seven Premier League games. The last player to score eight in a row was Jamie Vardy between October and December 2019.

Manchester City vs Fulham (Saturday, 3pm)

Manchester City are the only team with a 100% record still intact but will be given another stern test by visiting Fulham.

City have won their last 14 meetings with Saturday's opponents, who are without a win in 12 trips to the Treble winners.

Erling Haaland has failed to find the net in his last three league games at the Etihad, last going four home encounters without a goal in January 2021 while still at Borussia Dortmund.

Brighton vs Newcastle (Saturday, 5.30pm, Sky Sports)

Brighton and Newcastle will have eyes on bouncing back from setbacks last weekend in Saturday evening's clash.

The Seagulls are hoping to avoid losing successive games for the first time since last October, while the Magpies have been defeated in their last two outings — having only lost two of 15 Premier League games beforehand (10 wins, three draws). 

Pascal Gross became Brighton's all-time Premier League leading scorer with his 27th in the competition in the 3-1 defeat against West Ham. The German has four goals in his last six at the Amex, as many as he had in his previous 30.

Crystal Palace vs Wolves (Sunday, 2pm, Sky Sports)

Crystal Palace can win their fourth consecutive home league game against Wolves when the pair meet on Sunday.

Wolves ended a five-game winless run by beating Everton last Saturday and can claim two league victories in a row for the first time since April if they leave Selhurst Park with three points.

No player has had more shots in the Premier League this season than Eagles midfielder Eberechi Eze but he has failed to score with all 16 efforts. It is the most without netting since Harry Kane in 2017-18, who went on to find the net 30 times that campaign.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa (Sunday, 2pm)

An intriguing encounter sees Liverpool host a resurgent Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds will still be on a high from their dramatic 2-1 victory at Newcastle last weekend, while Villa have won four in a row in all competitions since a 5-1 humbling on Tyneside in their opening game.

Only Manchester United (12) and Chelsea (seven) have won more Premier League away games against Liverpool than Villa (six), though the Midlands outfit are winless in their last five trips to Anfield.

Mohamed Salah has been involved in at least one goal in his last nine league outings, while Moussa Diaby is looking to become only the sixth player to score in his first three away Premier League games — with Haaland most recently doing so last season.

Arsenal vs Manchester United (Sunday, 4.30pm, Sky Sports)

The Premier League's final and most notable clash of the weekend sees Arsenal take on Manchester United.

Mikel Arteta's hosts drew with Fulham last weekend but are still unbeaten this season, while the Red Devils can consider themselves fortunate to have six points after a lacklustre start to the campaign.

The Gunners have won four of the last five games against United at the Emirates (one draw), also claiming victories in five of the last nine meetings (two draws, two defeats).

Bukayo Saka has scored in each of his last three Premier League encounters versus Sunday's opponents — no Gunners player has ever scored in four consecutive league games against the visitors from Old Trafford.
