Premier League Matchday 20: Frantic festive period reaches finale

The frantic schedule of festive Premier League matches comes to an end as all 20 teams play between December 30 and January 2.

Liverpool host Newcastle on New Year's Day and will already have seen title rivals Manchester City play Sheffield United and Arsenal travel to Fulham.

Luton vs Chelsea (Saturday, 12.30pm, TNT Sports)

Luton have won back-to-back games against Newcastle and Sheffield United to keep themselves within touching distance of 17th place in the Premier League.

And they will be hoping history repeats itself considering the last time they won three consecutive top-flight matches was when they beat Chelsea in 1991.

There is plenty of hope for the visitors, however, as Mauricio Pochettino has taken charge of more away games against promoted sides without losing (20) than any other manager.

Aston Villa vs Burnley (Saturday, 3pm)

Aston Villa are looking to complete their first league double over Burnley since 1925-26 at Villa Park on Saturday.

But Unai Emery's side will be disappointed by how the last week has played out, drawing 1-1 at home to Sheffield United before surrendering a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at Manchester United.

The visitors are targeting their first back-to-back Premier League away wins since May 2021.

Crystal Palace vs Brentford (Saturday, 3pm)

Crystal Palace and Brentford have taken three points each from their last six matches, fewer than any other teams in the division.

And considering all five Premier League meetings between these sides have ended as a draw, it could continue to be a frustrating period for both.

The Bees may have the edge considering they have won each of their last four away London derbies.

Manchester City vs Sheffield United (Saturday, 3pm)

City remain right in the title race after impressively beating Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.

And they are unlikely to be knocked off track here considering they have won their last six Premier League matches against the Blades.

The Sheffield outfit have only scored more than once in one of their last 39 top-flight away games.

Wolves v Everton (Saturday, 3pm)

Wolves are 11th in the table after winning back-to-back matches against Chelsea and Brentford.

The Old Gold have beaten Everton in four of their last five meetings and are unbeaten in seven overall at Molineux.

Everton have won five of their last seven league away games, however, so this one is tough to call.

Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United (Saturday, 5.30pm, Sky Sports)

Nottingham Forest are on their way under Nuno Espirito Santo after beating Newcastle 3-1 at St James' Park on Boxing Day.

But they have a shocking recent record against United, losing all of their last 11 meetings with the Red Devils.

The visitors have not lost their last league game of a calendar year since they were beaten 3-2 by Blackburn in 2011.

Fulham vs Arsenal (Sunday, 2.00pm, Sky Sports)

Fulham are aiming to avoid defeat in both fixtures against Arsenal across a single season for the third time, previously doing so in 2011-12.

But the Gunners have won their last five matches at Craven Cottage, netting at least three goals in each of the last four.

Defender Gabriel has scored in three of his last four against the Cottagers and also notched at Anfield last weekend.

Tottenham vs Bournemouth (Sunday, 4.30pm, Sky Sports)

Tottenham have scored 32 goals in their last 13 matches against Bournemouth and have also netted in each of their last 18 league games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Andoni Iraola's side have managed at least two strikes in all of their last seven outings — winning six of them — so this looks set to be a high-scoring affair.

Cherries striker Dominic Solanke is a man in form, scoring eight times in his last seven outings.

Liverpool vs Newcastle (Monday, 8.00pm, Sky Sports)

Liverpool are unbeaten in 22 matches at Anfield, scoring at least three goals in six of their last eight games there.

The Reds have also beaten Newcastle in the last five league meetings between the sides and are unbeaten against them since 2015.

Eddie Howe's men have won just one of their last 11 league away games.

West Ham vs Brighton (Tuesday, 7.30pm, Sky Sports)

West Ham have conceded in all 13 of their Premier League meetings with Brighton — the most they have faced a side without keeping a clean sheet in the competition.

And the Seagulls have netted in 23 of their 25 matches in all competitions this season, only failing to do so in the league at Arsenal.

They will be able to call upon Danny Welbeck, who has scored against the Hammers more than any other top-flight opponent with six goals.
