Port Vale scored two late goals to deny Accrington their first win of the League Two season with a 2-2 draw at the Wham Stadium.

First-half goals from Shaun Whalley and Donald Love put Stanley in charge but Jayden Stockley’s 90th-minute header and substitute Antwoine Hackford’s 95th-minute strike meant they rescued a point.

Stanley dominated the first-half chances with a goal and an assist from veteran Whalley.

Whalley opened the scoring on 29 minutes when the winger got the ball on the left, ran into the box and curled a strike into the far corner.

Kelsey Mooney missed an open goal at the far post on 36 minutes but it was 2-0 after 43 minutes when Whalley’s corner found Love, who thumped a header past Connor Ripley.

The Valiants were more on the front foot after the break but it looked like Stanley would hold on until Stockley headed home from close range in the 90th minute.

Then, in the fifth minute of added time, a Ronan Curtis cross was fired home by Hackford to send the 1,049 visiting fans into raptures.
