Peterborough held on for all three points after Bristol Rovers’ second-half comeback in a five-goal thriller.

Kwame Poku and Ricky-Jade Jones put Darren Ferguson’s side 2-0 up in the first half before Malik Mothersille added a third just after the hour.

Luke McCormick and Gatlin O’Donkor fired the Gas back into the game as they netted within 45 seconds of each other but Posh stood firm to claim their first home league win of the season.

Former Aston Villa stopper Jed Steer secured the points with a couple of great late saves.

Poku netted for the second game running after Hector Kyprianou’s flick-on in the 10th minute.

Jones then took full advantage of a mistake at the back as he rounded goalkeeper Josh Griffiths for his first league goal since April.

Steer produced a good stop to tip James Wilson’s effort over on the stroke of half-time.

After the restart, Jones saw a header clawed away by Griffiths but Mothersille netted his first home strike as he fired home a left-footed effort just after the hour.

McCormick pulled one back in the 74th minute and within the blink of an eye they were back in it when O’Donkor flicked home Lino Sousa’s cross.

Steer denied Shaq Forde with four minutes to go before an even more crucial stop to tip a Wilson strike past the post in the last of 10 added minutes.
