No more Pep talk as Guardiola agrees City extension
Pep Guardiola has promised to bring more success to Manchester City after signing a two-year extension at the Etihad.
The Catalan tactician, 51, has been in charge at City since 2016 and has won nine major trophies during his reign so far, including four Premier League titles.
Guardiola’s deal was due to expire at the end of the current campaign but talks over fresh terms had been ongoing for some time.
Though his new contract will only run until 2025, the Spaniard is confident silverware will be the norm at City for a long time yet.
Guardiola said: "I am so pleased to be staying at Manchester City for another two years.
"I can’t say thank you enough to everyone at the club for trusting me. I am happy and comfortable here. I have everything I need to do my job as best as possible.
"I know the next chapter of this club will be amazing for the next decade. It happened over the last 10 years and it will happen in the next 10 years because this club is so stable.
"From day one I felt something special being here. I cannot be in a better place.
"I still have the feeling there is more we can achieve together and that is why I want to stay and continue fighting for trophies."
City sit second in the Premier League table, five points behind leaders Arsenal, and will resume their title defence after the World Cup at Leeds on December 28.
Guardiola will also be eyeing success in the Champions League — the only major trophy he has failed to lift as City boss.
Already the club's second longest-serving manager since the Second World War, the ex-Barcelona head coach has a 72.4% winning percentage and chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak was thrilled to tie him down.
Al Mubarak said: "I am delighted that Pep’s journey will continue.
"He has already contributed so much to the success and fabric of this organisation and it’s exciting to think what might be possible given the energy, hunger and ambition he clearly still has.
"Under his very special leadership our first team has accomplished so much, whilst continuously playing, and constantly evolving, a City style of football that is admired the world over.
"Like every City fan, I am looking forward to what lies ahead."
