Dan Adu-Adjei scored the winner as Carlisle beat Cumbrian rivals Barrow 1-0 in League Two to earn Paul Simpson’s side a first home win since New Year’s Day.

The 19-year-old Bournemouth loanee’s smart 35th-minute finish ended the visitors’ unbeaten start to the new campaign.

Adu-Adjei shrugged off defender Theo Vassell before curling a low right foot shot beyond Paul Farman.

Barrow midfielder Elliot Newby headed over in the first half and Kian Spence fired wide in the second but United goalkeeper Harry Lewis did not have a shot to save.

Paul Farman was not much busier but Carlisle created clearer chances through Aaron Hayden, Josh Vela and Ben Williams.

And when Barrow substitute Andy Dallas netted in stoppage time the goal was ruled out for offside.
