Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 Lens: Mbappe bags brace to seal first win
Kylian Mbappe scored twice to guide Paris Saint-Germain to a 3-1 triumph over Lens, their first win of the 2023-24 Ligue 1 campaign.
Marco Asensio opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time with his first goal for the club, curling a shot from the edge of the box past Brice Samba and into the bottom corner.
In the second half, Mbappe extended the Parisians' lead by powering home Lucas Hernandez's cut-back emphatically to claim his 150th Ligue 1 goal for PSG.
The France international's second took two deflections before finding its way into the back of the net to add a third for the defending champions.
Lens grabbed a late consolation goal through Morgan Guilavogui's shot that deflected off Milan Skriniar and past the near post of Gianluigi Donnarumma with the last kick of the game.
The win sees PSG move to five points and into fourth place, two points behind Ligue 1 leaders Monaco and Marseille.
Meanwhile, Lens — who finished second last season a point behind their opponents — have only managed one point from three games.
After the match, PSG boss Luis Enrique expressed his pleasure with the result.
He said: "I am very happy. What I see are players committed from the start, players who trust me and players who want to achieve what I ask. But all of that takes time to mature.
"Today, I really liked the second half and the energy we had to get a lot of chances. We did a lot of damage to this Lens team, which is a very high level team. It's a win that's good for everyone."
Having scored his first goal in PSG colours, Asensio was happy to help out the side.
He said: "The most important thing was to win as a team.
"The public saw a close-knit team and cheered us on throughout the game. We really played as a team, defensively and offensively. I'm very happy for our first win this season, especially here at home.
"I am very happy for my first goal with Paris. This goal helped the team get into the game well, opened up spaces. The first goal is always the most important.
"I am very happy for the victory and we hope to continue like this."
