Northampton claimed their first away win since February as they pulled off a 3-1 victory at Huddersfield.

The hosts handed Northampton a gift of an own goal in the 18th minute, with a scrambling Lee Nicholls unable to keep a misdirected Michal Helik backpass out of his net.

Seven minutes later, Tariqe Fosu found team-mate Cameron McGeehan unmarked on the edge of the box to finish off a counter-attack.

Northampton skipper Jon Guthrie appealed for a goal early in the second half after his header cannoned down off the underside of the bar, but the ball remained in play.

But the visitors did not have to wait long for number three, with Fosu overpowering Lasse Sorensen to go clean through on Nicholls and nutmeg him.

Huddersfield finally sparked into life in the final 10 minutes, with Josh Koroma scoring and then immediately earning a penalty that also got Akin Odimayo a second yellow card.

But Lee Burge saved Koroma’s tame spot-kick, effectively killing off the hosts’ unlikely comeback attempt.
