Madueke insists Poch's youthful Chelsea are not kidding around

Noni Madueke knows Chelsea's young stars are under pressure to deliver silverware sooner rather than later. 

Since taking control of the club, Todd Boehly and Co have scoured the globe to snap up some of the most promising talent the game has to offer on lengthy contracts. 

Madueke, 21, was part of the second wave of signings in January 2022 but a season of change saw managers come and go as a revamped squad finished 12th in the Premier League. 

Another summer of frenzied activity took Chelsea's spending under Boehly beyond the £1billion mark, with the big-spending approach widely criticised for failing to mix experienced players with emerging prospects. 

And Madueke knows there is only so long the club can go without delivering trophies — regardless of how successful they may be in years to come. 

Speaking to Chelsea's official website, he said: "You know the blueprint of the club. 

"If they have recruited you to come and join the project it says something about your ability. That's good to know in the back of your mind. 

"But it's not just about recruiting talented players. It's about making a winning team — and that is the next step we have to take this season.

"Silverware is so important to Chelsea and that is the direction we have to head in. 

"If you look at the squad we have, the depth, we would be doing ourselves a disservice if we thought we couldn't be right up there."

Mauricio Pochettino's side resume their league campaign at Bournemouth on Sunday having picked up four points from their opening four games. 

Yet Madueke is confident there is no need to push the panic button — not while Pochettino is at the helm, anyway. 

He added: "He's a really good man manager. He's created a culture where we are brothers off the pitch. 

"It helps we have a young squad so we are with each other a lot anyway. We are lucky to have him.

"He's transparent as well, which is really important."
