How does the Nations League draw work?

Leagues A, B and C all have four groups made up of four teams, with one drawn from each seeding pot into each group.

League D, made up of some of Europe's lower-ranked teams, has two groups of three teams each.

There are two restrictions on who can play who, with Kazakhstan only allowed to be drawn against one of England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Iceland for excessive travel reasons.

Armenia and Azerbaijan cannot be drawn together in League C for political reasons.

What is the format of the Nations League?

Winners of Leagues B, C and D are promoted to a higher division, with the fourth-placed teams in Leagues A, B and C groups relegated.

Teams who finish third in their groups in League A will face the runners-up in League B in a two-legged promotion/relegation play-off.

Third-placed countries in League B groups go up against League C runners-up. There is also a play-off between the best two fourth-placed teams and the two second-placed sides in League D.

The 2024-25 Nations League also offers another route into the 2026 World Cup.

The four best group winners who did not reach the North American tournament in the usual way enter into a World Cup play-off against runners-up from the European qualifying groups.
